This coming Wednesday, March 10, 2010, Anthology Film Archives will host a screening of Brazilian short films curated by Maria Baptista, at 8pm. This one-night showing of animation, documentaries and fiction short films is an homage to the female universe, and brings a total of nine films made by directors of both genders.

Italian Brazilian Bela Saona, the lead singer in the electro-rock band The Fire and Reason is ready for her moment under the spotlight. Since 2006, Bella and her band partner Steve Narvaez (from Ecuador) have recorded singles in English, Spanish (Mi Corazon) and Portuguese (Preste Atençao, Bomba), and have built a large fan base by playing in almost all urban markets in the United States.
Danielle Lima, a certified yoga instructor and one of the most established samba instructors in New York City, has a wide and impressive dance curriculum – she worked worked for Ringling Bros, Barnum & Bailey Circus (under choreographer Tony Stevens), taught modern and ethnics dance workshops in the YMCA in Harlem, NY, and joined Djoniba Dance & Drum Centre as a teacher of Brazilian Samba in early 2004.
Having recently become a favorite of local collectors and art critics, Brazilian sculptor Israel Vinicius Macedo, a 25-year-old from São Paulo, Brazil, is ready to become a full-time artist.
As the Founder and Managing Director of Brazil Ahead, a leading Brazilian Portuguese school in New York City, Cristhiane Vieira-Rozenblit has gotten used to meeting with her team of instructors on a weekly basis; she has done so every week, since the school opened at the end of 2007.
Born and raised in the Ironbound section of Newark, New Jersey, DJ and entrepreneur Mario Calegari is a respected and well established presence in the New York club scene. Together with Queens-based, Brazilian DJ Ray Briones, Calegari produced the single “Dark Samba” (released by the European label Fatal Music) which reached top ten spots in dozens of US and European music charts.
